See the site and remains of the original Figtree Bridge built<br />

in 1885. Take a bush walk along the Lane Cove River and<br />

discover the part the river played in developing industry in<br />

Lane Cove. Visit Lane Cove’s early industrial sites and discover<br />

the companies involved, including a tannery and a woodpipe<br />

company. Hear the story of Blackmans Park. See a number of<br />

historic houses in lane Cove West. View early photographs of<br />

the area and river. Wear walking shoes and bring water.<br />

Museum presents Technology from a manual world<br />

Carisbrook House Museum, 334 Burns Bay Road<br />

View hand tools used in the late 19th & early 20th centuries,<br />

collected by the Traditional Tool Group and displayed in<br />

Sydney’s only Victorian House Museum. Take a tour of the<br />

furnished house and hear how life was lived in the Victorian<br />

era. Enjoy a walk or picnic in the waterfront grounds of<br />

the house. See demonstrations of the tools in use (ring for<br />

details of times). Open Saturday and Sunday, other days by<br />

appointment only. Parking available on site, disabled access<br />

and toilet facilities. Group bookings and refreshments by<br />

Lewisham is a junction for EVERY form of infrastructure<br />

and incineration. And it was also a suburb of scientists,<br />

astronomers and university men. One state premier and<br />

twelve Members of Parliament also chose to reside in this<br />

once-desirable ‘healthy and aristocratic’ suburb. Mark<br />

Matheson, former editor with the Royal Australian Historical<br />

Society, leads this walking tour and reveals information from<br />

the council minutes and contemporary newspapers.<br />
