<strong>The</strong> one-star annexe around <strong>the</strong> corner<br />

has rooms that are slightly cheaper but lessappealing<br />

than those in <strong>the</strong> two-star main<br />

<strong>The</strong> Montin is known principally for its<br />

upmarket <strong>and</strong> once-fashionable restaurant;<br />

few people realize that it offers some of<br />

<strong>Venice</strong>’s best budget accommodation. Only<br />

eleven rooms, three of <strong>the</strong>m without private<br />

bathroom; <strong>the</strong> best rooms are spacious <strong>and</strong><br />

quiet, comfortable <strong>and</strong> friendly three-star<br />

has an excellent location very close <strong>to</strong> San<br />

Barnaba church, just five minutes from <strong>the</strong><br />

This long-established old-fashioned twostar<br />

is always booked months ahead, but<br />

its reputation exceeds reality nowadays,<br />

as <strong>the</strong> rooms have become ra<strong>the</strong>r dowdy,<br />

have no a/c, <strong>and</strong> several do not have a<br />

private bathroom. <strong>The</strong> location is terrific,<br />

but <strong>the</strong> neighbouring Calcina is definitely a<br />

low-priced hotel in <strong>the</strong> immediate vicinity<br />

three-star is furnished in muted <strong>and</strong> traditional<br />

rarity in itself), Ca’ Arco Antico offers some<br />

of <strong>the</strong> best budget-range accommodation in<br />

three-star hotel is situated just a few metres<br />

view of <strong>the</strong> Canal Gr<strong>and</strong>e from some of its<br />

26 rooms, all of which retain <strong>the</strong> charisma of<br />
