The conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity in Madagascar is being supported by UNDP. For example, the Anjozorobe Forest
Corridor project, funded by GEF, promotes participatory community-based conservation, the sustainable use of non-timber forest products,
appropriate land tenure security, and alternative income-generation activities for local communities. The conservation site will be
operated under a co-management system involving local communities, NGOs and government institutions. The Spotlight section provides
further details on this initiative. At a strategic level, the Environmental Action Plan in Madagascar seeks to buttress efforts to maintain
the pristine coastal and marine biodiversity surrounding the island. The project is funded by GEF.
