6.1.1 Baseline data and groups<br />

Table 6.1.1 shows the baseline data for students in each group when they were due to<br />

start their block of music therapy - at data collection 1 for group A and data collection<br />

2 for group B. The average age of the students was almost the same in both groups<br />

and of 21 students, 20 were boys.<br />

Two students in group A had significant hearing-impairment and one in group B was<br />

visually-impaired. Two students (one in group A and one in group B) had English as<br />

a second language. Two students had specified learning difficulties and were<br />

diagnosed with ADHD, one of whom was on medication. Although it would have<br />

been ideal to have no students on medication, this was not able to be monitored as<br />
