7.1.1 The main findings from a thematic review of the interviews<br />

‘Qualitative data are examples of human meaningful communication […] Qualitative<br />

research is concerned with explaining what people and situations have in common’<br />

(Gibbs, 2007, p.9). Incorporating a semi-structured interview into the student’s<br />

meetings with the interviewer, before and after their block of therapy, gave the<br />

research study ethnographical detail. Revealing ideas, attitudes and personal<br />

experiences from the students first-hand is a phenomenological approach and the data<br />

from these interviews proved a vital way to gain a better view into the students’<br />

experience.<br />

Table 7.1 shows the themes which emerged. They were generally linked to the<br />

questions that the interviewer put to the students (table 5.8).<br />
