The Railways of the Slovak Republic (ŽSR) invested 168.1 million EUR
in modernization of railway infrastructure in 2008. Works on rail tracks
could not be executed without closures or modifications in the train
diagram. A long-term objective of ŽSR is a change of traction in the
corridor No. V.
One of the activities of ŽSR to improve conditions for intermodal transport
is promotion of public terminals network, providing terminal services on
a non-discriminatory basis with interconnection to logistics centres for
the purpose of efficient provision of logistics services. By achieving these
objectives, the Operational Program “Transport” - priority axis 3 shall
be fulfilled. These terminals shall comply with the conditions of AGTC
agreement.
Construction of tri-modal terminal is being prepared in Bratislava; another
terminals of intermodal transport will be in Košice, Žilina and Leopoldov.
All terminals are located on the European transport routes and will
offer the carriers in intermodal transport complete range of services.
Construction is planned between 2009 and 2012.
- The aim of ŽSR, in the field of railway reconstruction, is to achieve
European parameters of rail tracks. Priority is given to factors such
as traffic speed, punctuality, security, low costs, availability and
interoperability – described the key elements from the viewpoint of
customers in freight transport the Head of strategic management of ŽSR
Miroslav Garaj.
ŽSR has to ensure enough incomes to cover planned objectives. The
economic crisis that will result in decrease in ŽSR revenues from
infrastructure charges by approximately 43 million EUR in 2009, had
an impact on neighbouring railways as well. - ŽSR expect that current,
average decline in performances by 35 percent should come to an
end and for the upcoming years, a slight increase in performances is
anticipated – concluded his presentation on strategy of ŽSR in the field of
railway infrastructure modernization and its impact on freight transport in
a conference “Trade year 2010” of ZSSK CARGO Miroslav Garaj.
