Course Syllabus IV-E Functions<br />

3-6 hour training – participants develop skills and knowledge for<br />
completing a referral packet for placement that will preserve a<br />
child’s safety, well-being and permanency planning. Emphasis is<br />
on ensuring the best match and fit for an appropriate placement,<br />
and understanding the impact <strong>of</strong> placement on a child. Care Mgt.<br />
Team representatives provide information on residential<br />
placement requests and recommendations.<br />

living arrangements; amending a placement; and calculating a<br />

Provides participants with 14 hours <strong>of</strong> training on basic s<strong>of</strong>tware<br />
packages to develop skills necessary for communications, file<br />
management, and case documentation, as well as accessing online<br />
resources.<br />
3-6 hour training – develops understanding <strong>of</strong> important<br />
differences between risk and safety; why each is assessed; what<br />
the assessments reveal and what actions are indicated as a result <strong>of</strong><br />
each assessment. Participants actively engage in exercises related<br />
to each within the context <strong>of</strong> family centered practice.<br />
Pr<strong>of</strong>essional experienced in trauma assessment provide an<br />
overview <strong>of</strong> current research in the field <strong>of</strong> psychological trauma<br />
and an introduction to trauma informed clinical treatment and case<br />
management.<br />
6 hour training (1 and ½ days) includes tour <strong>of</strong> the Providence<br />
<strong>Children</strong>’s Museum – develops understanding <strong>of</strong> the expectation<br />
<strong>of</strong> visitation practice from theoretical and practical perspectives.<br />
Links visitation practice with DCYF policy, ASFA, familycentered<br />
practice, assessment and permanency planning as a<br />
means <strong>of</strong> promoting a best practice approach to visitation.<br />
Develops an understanding <strong>of</strong> importance <strong>of</strong> team approach<br />
consisting <strong>of</strong> biological family, placement resource, service<br />
providers, child and worker; and increases understanding <strong>of</strong> how<br />
emotional aspects <strong>of</strong> the children and families’ lives can impact on<br />
and are integral to visitation preparation and process.<br />
3 separate programs (12 hours total) to teach participants a<br />
developmentally based model for independent living - focuses on<br />
