Child Protective Services (CPS) Training Modules<br />

characteristics in relation to victims and child perpetrators.<br />

Interrogation I - II<br />
2 day training designed to enhance knowledge and skills <strong>of</strong><br />
child protective investigators, Intake staff, and CPS<br />
administrators regarding interview and interrogation<br />
techniques for suspected adult perpetrators in child<br />
abuse/neglect investigations. Trainer is certified by the FBI<br />
Academy.<br />

Training Institute on <strong>Youth</strong> Who Sexually Abuse –<br />
The <strong>Department</strong> has also developed and implemented five training courses<br />
specifically on the issue <strong>of</strong> juveniles who sexually <strong>of</strong>fend. The training outlined in the<br />
following table is designed to increase knowledge and skills for DCYF staff and<br />
contracted residential and community-based provider staff who work with adolescents<br />
who have been adjudicated and those who have not been adjudicated <strong>of</strong> sex <strong>of</strong>fenses.<br />
The training was developed through a collaboration between DCYF and providers with<br />
expertise in working with juvenile sex <strong>of</strong>fenders focusing on risk management, and<br />
importantly, with the representation <strong>of</strong> victims advocates to ensure a balanced training<br />
inclusive <strong>of</strong> the victims’ voice. None <strong>of</strong> these classes are charged to IV-E.<br />

that all staff responsible for<br />
working with adolescents in the<br />
care and custody <strong>of</strong> DCYF who<br />
sexually <strong>of</strong>fend are trained to<br />
provide a consistent level <strong>of</strong> quality<br />
in each facility and in the<br />
community.<br />
DCYF contracted provider staff<br />
for residential treatment and<br />
community-based support<br />

monitoring staff; Juvenile<br />
Probation and Parole staff;<br />
