Course Syllabus IV-E Functions<br />

Training<br />
early, middle and late adolescent stages; teaches assessment tools<br />
to measure adolescents’ level <strong>of</strong> skill and competency, and to use<br />
a team approach to providing independent living services.<br />
Increases understanding <strong>of</strong> principles <strong>of</strong> mutual involvement;<br />
social worker and adolescent communication.<br />
Preparation for and<br />
participation in judicial<br />
determination; Case<br />
management and<br />
supervision; Referral to<br />
services.<br />
Adoption<br />
7 hour training designed to provide social caseworkers with the<br />
knowledge and tools necessary in preparing children for adoption.<br />
Course increases knowledge and awareness <strong>of</strong> DCYF and<br />
contracted agencies; family systems in adoption work; separation<br />
and loss issues; recognizing attachment disorders; identifying<br />
appropriate home studies; knowledge <strong>of</strong> the importance <strong>of</strong> postplacement<br />
support and treatment services and strategies to ensure<br />
that services are provided to children and their adoptive families.<br />
Development <strong>of</strong> the service<br />
plan; Placement <strong>of</strong> the child;<br />
Preparation for and<br />
participation in judicial<br />
determination; Case<br />
management and<br />
supervision; Referral to<br />
services; and Case review.<br />
The <strong>Department</strong> has implemented new core pre-service and in-service modules<br />
for the classification <strong>of</strong> Child Support Technician (CST), and additional core training<br />
modules for Social Caseworker II classifications. In the listing <strong>of</strong> courses that follow,<br />
each module includes classes that may address direct IV-E functions, general<br />
administration activities; or both. The pre-service CST modules are listed below:<br />
