ii) In the case of Local Governments, the Responsible Officer will be responsible for the posting to various departments or sections as the case may be. (d) Training i. Training will be initiated and financed by the Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs) and Local Governments where the Officers will be serving. The Ministries, Departments, Agencies and Local Governments will consult the Ministry of Public Service for professional and policy guidance. ii. iii. iv. Newly recruited Officers and those transferred within service shall be oriented and inducted into the service by the respective Ministries, Departments, Agencies and Local Governments. For professional training that is not available in the country, arrangements should be made for training abroad; consistent with the needs of the work of the individual within available resources. Completion of specific training will not necessarily lead to promotion. The successful completion of relevant management and professional training will normally be taken into account in the promotion process. Long term training in the relevant field attracts annual salary increment which should be in accordance to the prevailing Standing Orders. (e) Professional Growth and Advancement A nurse is expected to grow professionally either vertically or horizontally. This may be through:- i) Up grading to improve on the current qualifications. ii) Continuous Professional Development which may take various forms ranging from refresher courses, workshops to Scheme of Service for the Nursing Cadre Page 9
short and long term courses leading to Bachelors, Masters and PhD degrees. iii) iv) Research and publication of relevant material in the various nursing specialities.
