SCHEMES OF SERVICE FOR THE NURSING CADRE

To provide professional guidance and support supervision for effective
delivery of nursing services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
(a) To assist the commissioner nursing services to plan, organize and
coordinate programs of the nursing department.
(b) To supervise, monitor, and evaluate nursing services in the hospital
(c) To coach and mentor nursing professionals
(d) To enforce ethical professional conduct in the provision of nursing
services
(e) To provide technical guidance and support supervision to Nurses in
the Health facilities.
(f) To plan and coordinate the implementation of quality assurances
programmes.
(g) To participate in teaching and mentoring of students
(h) To identify training needs and plans for training and staff
development.
(i) To initiates and participate in nursing research activities for
evidence- based practice.
(j) Carries out performance appraisal of staff
Key Result Areas
(a) Quality of care is good and patient satisfactory ratings have
improved
(b) Programs of nursing department have been fully implemented and
those programs have realised their intentions.
(c) Nurses do a professional job and are aware of the consequences of
not being professional
(d) Nurses have acquired hands on skills and experience, and it is
evident that patients are receiving quality nursing services
(e) Zero tolerance for unethical conduct has been set; nurses
adequately appreciate and realise that unethical conduct leads to
adverse consequences
(f) Error margins in nursing work have reduced to acceptable levels
because of technical guidance and support supervision
