3) Inform the pr<strong>in</strong>cipal that exclud<strong>in</strong>g Sam from school <strong>with</strong>out a valid reason is<br />

equivalent to a suspension and tell her that if her <strong>in</strong>tent is to suspend Sam, she<br />

needs to provide the required written notice. Often, press<strong>in</strong>g the issue is enough to<br />

get a student back <strong>in</strong> school immediately.<br />

4) If necessary, make a compla<strong>in</strong>t to the special education director for the district, or<br />

an IDEA compla<strong>in</strong>t to the state department <strong>of</strong> education.<br />
