Code 90-20-460 provides<br />

medications shall not be<br />
delegated unless permitted<br />
by Part 54.1-3400 <strong>of</strong> the<br />
Code <strong>of</strong> Virg<strong>in</strong>ia.<br />
However, the Dept <strong>of</strong><br />
Education has established<br />
procedures <strong>in</strong>dicat<strong>in</strong>g that<br />
UAPs may adm<strong>in</strong>ister<br />
diazepam (see next<br />
column).<br />

Specialized Health <strong>Care</strong> Services,<br />
Neurological Guidance, states<br />
that “Any school personnel who<br />
has regular contact <strong>with</strong> a student<br />
who requires rectal diazepam<br />
should receive general tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />
cover<strong>in</strong>g the student’s specific<br />
needs, potential problems and<br />
implementation <strong>of</strong> the established<br />
emergency plan.” Guidel<strong>in</strong>es on<br />
who may adm<strong>in</strong>ister shall be<br />
<strong>in</strong>cluded <strong>in</strong> the student’s<br />
<strong>in</strong>dividualized health plan.<br />
