The core course and a number of advancedmodules are offered at the Institute of Tropical Medicine and InternationalHealth at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. Furtheroptional modules can be selected from a list of more than 180 coursesoffered by the tropEd partner institutions (see course catalogue atwww.troped.org). Full-time stu<strong>de</strong>nts can choose from among six pre-tions,namely: Tropical Medicine and Disease Control; Health Systems,Health Policy and Managem<strong>en</strong>t; Sexual and ReproductiveHealth; Child Health; Health Research Methods; and Health in Emerg<strong>en</strong>cies.The course offer inclu<strong>de</strong>s distance and e-learning modules.Quality AssuranceA peer-reviewed quality assurance process within the tropEd Networkguarantees highest standards in education and training. Nationalaccreditation of teaching provision has be<strong>en</strong> obtained in Germanyas well as in several other European countries, and the programmehas repeatedly be<strong>en</strong> selected as one of the best European Master’sprogrammes (2002 European University Association; 2004, 2005 and2009 European Commission). The programme was recognized for<strong>de</strong>monstrating innovation in addressing issues of transnational cooperationwith an excell<strong>en</strong>t record of teaching quality assurance and recognition,stu<strong>de</strong>nt mobility, course integration and sustainability.Duration / ECTS CreditsThe programme can be completed within two semesters (full-time) orup to eight semesters (part-time). A total of 60 European Credit TransferSystem (ECTS) credit points must be accumulated for successfulcompletion of the programme; one ECTS credit point is equival<strong>en</strong>tto 30 hours stu<strong>de</strong>nt investm<strong>en</strong>t time. A minimum of 10 ECTS creditpoints needs to be earned in tropEd partner institutions outsi<strong>de</strong> ofGermany. The research project may be un<strong>de</strong>rtak<strong>en</strong> either in Berlin orabroad.Selection of participants is gui<strong>de</strong>d by the programme’s emphasis ona multidisciplinary approach to international health. Stu<strong>de</strong>nts from avariety of backgrounds are recruited, including medical professionals,social sci<strong>en</strong>tists, health educators and health managers.EnglishCompletion of a 3.5-year Bachelor’s or equival<strong>en</strong>t <strong>de</strong>gree in asci<strong>en</strong>ces, psychology, sociology, anthropology, epi<strong>de</strong>miology, nutrition,health economics.
