The maincampus of TUM is located in the inner city of Munich close to the oldcity c<strong>en</strong>tre, while many of the institutes are in Munich’s beautiful surroundings.TUM curr<strong>en</strong>tly hosts approx. 32,000 stu<strong>de</strong>nts in its 13 faculties,about 16 per c<strong>en</strong>t of whom come from abroad.Munich is the capital of Bavaria, the southernmost state of Germany.Bavaria offers an impressive cultural heritage and many areas of outstandingnatural beauty. Munich itself, an 850-year-old city with 1.3million inhabitants, is one of the major cultural c<strong>en</strong>tres in Germany. Inaddition, Munich also hosts the headquarters and major research and<strong>de</strong>velopm<strong>en</strong>t <strong>de</strong>partm<strong>en</strong>ts of many high-tech companies, internationalas well as German. Many of them are in close cooperation with TUM.The Master’s programme is built on three pillars,• geo<strong>de</strong>tic, planning and <strong>en</strong>gineering skills,• methods of land administration, land (use) managem<strong>en</strong>t, land• political, regulatory and socio-economic frameworks,and thus aims to qualify mid-career stu<strong>de</strong>nts in interdisciplinaryapproaches to land policy, land governance and land managem<strong>en</strong>t inthe rural as well as in the urban context. The lectures focus on landrights, land policy and governance, land economics, land administra-<strong>en</strong>vironm<strong>en</strong>tal risk managem<strong>en</strong>t, GIS, positioning, cartography, participatoryplanning approaches, managem<strong>en</strong>t skills, research and studyskills. Stu<strong>de</strong>nts are trained in the application of practical methods andticalinternational experi<strong>en</strong>ce round out the programme.
