Frequently running suburbantrains take them to Tharandt within only 20 minutes.ingsof the former Royal Academy of Forestry, as well as newly constructedones with modern equipment for teaching, studying andexperimenting.The Master’s course aims at educating and qualifying executives formanagement concepts directed at natural forests, forest plantationsand other wood formations, agroforestry systems and urban greenspaces, as well as the control of their implementation and monitoring.tionsof the society and the manifold interactions among human beingsand forest formation development from a multidisciplinary perspective.Therefore, the Master’s course is composed of 18 interdisciplinarymodules in accordance with the Bologna process. Altogether the twoyearcourse comprises 120 credits (ECTS) structured in three semestersfor attendance studies and one semester for elaboration anddefence of the Master’s thesis. The modules offered during the secondand third semesters contain optional portions allowing the studentis prepared to effectively collect and analyse primary data from latethird up to early fourth semester. Elaboration and defence of the Master’sthesis complete the course.-that meet the professional and interdisciplinary methodological standardsrequired to pursue and develop their careers.Study contents: The course goes beyond complex knowledge of forestryin tropical and subtropical regions. First semester modulesinclude Forest Ecology; Forest Development and Land Use Policy;Inventory and Assessment of Forest Resources; Forest Culture andExtension; Forest Plantations and Agroforestry, and Forest Utilisation.The second semester modules include Forest Ecosystems, Silvicultureand Forest Protection; Economics and Management of Forest Resources;Organisation and Management Systems; Project Planning and Evaluation;Tropical Soils, Degradation and Rehabilitation; Management ofProtected Areas, Wildlife and Tourism, and complex thematic seminars.The third semester modules include Management Systems in NaturalForests; Management Systems in Forest Plantations; Urban TreeManagement; Integrated Land Use Management at Landscape Scale;74
