Due to its spectrum of research and wi<strong>de</strong> range ofhigh quality courses, Cologne University of Applied Sci<strong>en</strong>ces is a popularcooperation partner, maintaining numerous contacts with universitiesworldwi<strong>de</strong> as well as with tra<strong>de</strong> and industry. Cologne is a city ofturalactivities.The two-year postgraduate programme “Technology and ResourceManagem<strong>en</strong>t in the Tropics and Subtropics” provi<strong>de</strong>s young Germanand foreign graduates with additional subject-related know-how <strong>de</strong>alingwith appropriate technologies in the tropics and subtropics, as wellas fundam<strong>en</strong>tal skills in resource managem<strong>en</strong>t.The global food, water and <strong>en</strong>ergy crises force us to <strong>de</strong>velop newstrategies and means of managing natural resources. Therefore,experts with a wi<strong>de</strong> range of knowledge to analyse complex human<strong>en</strong>vironm<strong>en</strong>talsystems and <strong>de</strong>velop appropriate solutions are in great<strong>de</strong>mand. Tropical and subtropical regions typically face particular chall<strong>en</strong>gesdue to pressures from population growth and economic <strong>de</strong>velopm<strong>en</strong>tcombined with highly vulnerable <strong>en</strong>vironm<strong>en</strong>ts. The objectiveof the M.Sc. “Technology and Resources Managem<strong>en</strong>t in the Tropicsand Subtropics” (TERMA) is to provi<strong>de</strong> the participants with the appropriateknowledge and skills to analyse curr<strong>en</strong>t problems related tothe usage and managem<strong>en</strong>t of land, water and <strong>en</strong>ergy resources onvarious scales and <strong>de</strong>velop a<strong>de</strong>quate solutions towards sustainable<strong>de</strong>velopm<strong>en</strong>t.
