Famous opera productions, aphilharmonic orchestra as well as a r<strong>en</strong>owned ballet company togetherwith a variety of museums, theatres and ev<strong>en</strong>ts, offer a vivid culturallife. Stuttgart is a good choice for international stu<strong>de</strong>nts, as theyaccount for around 22 per c<strong>en</strong>t of the stu<strong>de</strong>nt body, which is the highestratio of any Germany city.A well-planned system of infrastructure facilities is the primary prerequisitefor <strong>de</strong>velopm<strong>en</strong>t in any country. There is a pressing internationalneed for professionals capable of directing the conception, planningand construction of infrastructure facilities for transportation, waterand waste managem<strong>en</strong>t on the urban as well as on the regional level,while integrating economic, social, ecological and managem<strong>en</strong>taspects.With the Master’s Programme Infrastructure Planning, the Universityof Stuttgart has be<strong>en</strong> offering an internationally acclaimed Master ofSci<strong>en</strong>ce programme since 1983. Faculty members from differ<strong>en</strong>t institutesand experi<strong>en</strong>ced practitioners offer their knowledge to a limitednumber of 40 stu<strong>de</strong>nts per session. Special emphasis is placed on aninterdisciplinary approach to planning in an intercultural context, whichscale and complex projects, especially in international project cooperation.Programme structure and cont<strong>en</strong>t:The tightly structured programme is divi<strong>de</strong>d into four semesters.modules to broa<strong>de</strong>n the professional horizon, the second semesteroffers a variety of electives to the advanced stu<strong>de</strong>nts. In the thirdsemester, besi<strong>de</strong>s additional electives, an ext<strong>en</strong>sive case study <strong>de</strong>alswith the complex problems of infrastructure planning and the chall<strong>en</strong>gesof interdisciplinary teamwork. Int<strong>en</strong>sive group work provi<strong>de</strong>s trainingin methods and techniques applied successfully in Germany.
