Proof of its international reputationis to be found in its partnerships with the most distinguisheduniversities in Europe, North America, Asia and Australia. The city ofBonn can look back upon a history of more than 2,000 years. In itsnew role as Fe<strong>de</strong>ral City, Bonn has become headquarters for a larg<strong>en</strong>umber of international institutions.The C<strong>en</strong>ter for Developm<strong>en</strong>t Research (ZEF) in Bonn, Germany,offers a Doctoral Studies Program in English. The Program is an ini-standingMaster’s or equival<strong>en</strong>t <strong>de</strong>gree in economics, social sci<strong>en</strong>ces,sociology, political sci<strong>en</strong>ce, economics, <strong>de</strong>velopm<strong>en</strong>t economics, agriculturaland resource economics, agronomy, biology, ecology, forestry,mathematics or earth sci<strong>en</strong>ces.The ZEF Doctoral Studies Program is <strong>de</strong>signed to give particular consi<strong>de</strong>rationto the aca<strong>de</strong>mic needs of stu<strong>de</strong>nts from <strong>de</strong>veloping countries.ZEF provi<strong>de</strong>s int<strong>en</strong>se study counseling and aca<strong>de</strong>mic supportservices by tutors and m<strong>en</strong>tors. Gui<strong>de</strong>d by ZEF, and following consul-ral thesis is submitted to a cooperating faculty in Germany or abroad.The doctoral <strong>de</strong>grees may be in Social or Political Sci<strong>en</strong>ce, Economics,Agricultural Economics, Agriculture or Natural Sci<strong>en</strong>ce.months. Although the program is exclusively in English, it starts withan int<strong>en</strong>se German language course (duration 2 months) to facilitateliving in Germany. After an initial phase of 6 to 12 months for preparationwith a tightly organized course program, the doctoral candi--supervisors. After their empirical research (normally one to two years),the candidates return to ZEF for the write-up of their thesis. Althoughthe individual phases of the doctoral study may vary according to dis-must be accomplished within 38 months.The limited number of participants (max. 35 stu<strong>de</strong>nts) in the coursesallows for int<strong>en</strong>sive interaction.
