Initial meetings have startedand will be finalized within 2012/2013 financial year. The EMF is envisaged to close most gapsfocusing on areas of concern in the district as a whole.Environmental Atlas – applicable to <strong>Maphumulo</strong> MunicipalityThe Environmental Atlas was developed by iLembe district municipality; the mapsincorporate a sensitivity analysis, which is a decision support tool for integrating systematicconservation planning principles into spatial planning within protected areas. The processhas grown in response to the requirements of the Protected Areas Act which indicates thatfuture management actions within protected areas is undertaken within a defendable,transparent and biodiversity driven framework. This sensitivity analysis identifies variousunderlying concepts such as habitat value, landscape sensitivity and systematicconservation planning.NB: Biodiversity maps, IEP, EMF studies are being developed such that the whole family ofmunicipalities are beneficiaries of such information and they can build upon it for otherintended municipalities environmental studies and or sector plans.Biodiversity Management Plan – applicable to <strong>Maphumulo</strong> MunicipalityAs part of Ezemvelo <strong>KZN</strong> wildlife’s systematic conservation planning, made availablenecessary biodiversity maps, which have necessary biodiversity ILembe to improve theenvironmental layer of the Spatial <strong>Development</strong> Framework (SDF). These maps willcontribute immensely during EMF development process and will eventually contribute tomore formalized and gazetted Bioregional Plan that is a requirement for the region byEzemvelo <strong>KZN</strong> Wildlife.
