MAP 24: iLembe Urban Zone Map4.14.2 RATIONALE FOR THE URBAN DEVELOPMENT LINESThe rationale for the urban development lines in the Region is to encourage:The protection of high potential agricultural land through the containment of urbandevelopment;The creation of efficient urban and rural spaces that provide spatial lifestyle choices forresidents in and to the Region;The efficient and sustainable supply of bulk water and sanitation that addresses bothbacklogs as well as frontlogs.4.14.3 MAPHUMULO LOCAL MUNICIPALITYThe urban development line is the approved general plan of the Maphumulo town. The periurbanline of the Maphumulo Local Municipality is the desired future growth of municipality,which moves from a North West direction to an easterly direction along the main road. Theother peri-urban areas within this municipality have established settlements that are growingwhich are anticipated to densify over the next 20-30 year period. The remainder of themunicipality is the rural zone which contains significant portions of environmentally importantgrasslands and bio-diversity.
