7.4 DEPARTMENT OF WORKSThe vision of theDepartment ofWorks is: Athrivingeconomythroughinfrastructuredevelopmentand propertymanagement.The mission of thedepartment is to leadin infrastructuredevelopment andproperty managementin KwaZulu-Natal.The department is committed to the provincialpriorities and will strive, in the next three years, toachieve the following key strategic objectives: To provide and facilitate the provision ofaccommodation and propertymanagement services to satisfy clientneeds; To achieve optimal utilisation of fixedstate assets through effectiveimplementation of the Government-wideImmovable Asset Management System; To improve integrated service delivery; To create jobs through the ExpandedPublic Works Programme (EPWP); To enhance the following envisagedbenefits of departmental programmesfor contributing to bridging the gapbetween the first and second economyand the anti-poverty campaign through:o skills development in the builtenvironment;o employment creation;o creation of an enablingenvironment to attract women,youth and theo disabled to the constructionindustry and property industry;andodevelopment of new capacityin the construction industrythrough activeo support for emergingcontractors and emergingconsultants.
