This is an act in Shari’ah thatis not essential for every one. If fewor some persons from the society dothat job it is being accepted by Allah(SWT) from the whole society. In thislist of technical knowledge essentialfor the society, medical knowledgeis on the top (31,41) . In fact, acquiringmedical knowledge and dispersing it isin the best interest of humanity and isa means for strengthening one’s faith(Iman). “Such is He, the Knower of allthings, hidden and open, the Exalted (inPower), the Merciful; He Who has madeeverything which He has created mostwell: He began the creation of man with(nothing more than) clay.” (45) .At the end, one must always pray toAlmighty in accordance to Sunnah of ourProphet for al-ilm al-nafe (knowledgewhich is useful in this world and in thehereafter). It becomes a compulsorysegment of one’s professional life toacquire current medical knowledgeand expertise for the best care of hispatients and his society and humanity.Perfecting his profession to preservepeoples’ lives in compliance withAllah’s command to colonize theuniverse and to serve humanity at largeis a duty for the Muslim physician. Theconcept of Islamic message shouldbe acknowledged by every scholar ofmedicine. To attain an outstanding levelof knowledge, continuing educationis essential, so that the scholar’sknowledge will be most useful for allcommunities. It is the tool to providethe best possible care to one’s patientsand to meet Allah knowing that onehas done his share to improve the lot offellow human beings.FIMA YearBook 200997
