Because the data is not available at the level of the <strong>Amsterdam</strong> metropolitan area, it ispresented for the COROP-regions (Table 1-4) and municipalities (Table 1-5) for which data couldbe found. According to Table 1-4, the share of medium-sized companies (defined as having 100or more employees) in the total number of businesses varies between 0.6% and 1% for thevarious regions of the metropolitan region. The Dutch average is 0.8%. When taking the Groot-<strong>Amsterdam</strong> region as a point of reference for comparison with the whole of the <strong>Netherlands</strong>, wecan see that the share of very small companies (0-5 employees) and medium-sized companies liesbelow the Dutch average, whereas the share of companies with 5-100 employees clearly exceedsthe national average. Table 1-5 shows how employees are divided over the various company sizesfor a number of municipalities within the <strong>Amsterdam</strong> metropolitan region. Between 63.7% and71.4% of the employees from the selected municipalities are working for medium-sized22
