7.4 CALIBRATION MENU7.4.1 CALIBRATE BALANCEThis process will span calibrate thebalance. The balance should becalibrated once per month, whenever theinstrument is moved, or whenever aproblem is suspected. Calibrationrequires a clean, dry sample pan, and aFigure 37 BALANCE CAL20 gram calibration mass. The screenprompts you to have both available before beginning the calibration process.! Best results are obtained if the <strong>MAX</strong>-<strong>1000</strong> has been powered up for at least 30minutes and with the chamber at room temperature stablized at 80/C. Avibration-free table will speed the calibration process, since the balance willstabilize more quickly if it is not subject to vibration.! To calibrate, “Selct” BALANCECALIBRATION” and follow the menuprompts on the display.! Press the down arrow to begin thecalibration procedure.! The first prompt is to OPEN THE LID.! After placing a clean pan on the scaleand closing the door, the screen willindicate that the unit is taring.Figure 38 OPEN THE LID! As soon as the tare is finished, the nextOPEN THE LID prompt will appear.! As the lid is opened, the screen promptrequests that a 20 gram calibrationweight be placed gently on the center ofthe sample pan. Do not press down onthe scale but just place the weight on thepan.!
