- Participating in class discussions – more than half the international studentssurveyed do not feel confident about participating in class discussions.- Class presentations – only a small percentage of international students areconfident in class presentation due to their language difficulties.Apart from the language problems, our study also found that an unfamiliarenvironment, different teaching methods <strong>and</strong> culture shock are the main difficultiesexperienced by first-year international students.Details of our findings are outlined in Chapter 6 of this report. Based on thesefindings, we have devised guidelines <strong>for</strong> lecturers <strong>and</strong> education managers to furtherimprove the approaches to teaching/managing students from diverse culturalbackgrounds, as well as guidelines to assist students of Asian background todevelop better study strategies in their cross-cultural learning environments.
