- Participating in class discussions – more than half the international studentssurveyed do not feel confident about participating in class discussions.- Class presentations – only a small percentage of international students areconfident in class presentation due to their language difficulties.Apart from the language problems, our study also found that an unfamiliarenvironment, different teaching methods and culture shock are the main difficultiesexperienced by first-year international students.Details of our findings are outlined in Chapter 6 of this report. Based on thesefindings, we have devised guidelines for lecturers and education managers to furtherimprove the approaches to teaching/managing students from diverse culturalbackgrounds, as well as guidelines to assist students of Asian background todevelop better study strategies in their cross-cultural learning environments.
