It also protects <strong>in</strong>dependent creations deriv<strong>in</strong>gfrom orig<strong>in</strong>al works, such as those result<strong>in</strong>g from adapt<strong>in</strong>g, translat<strong>in</strong>g or <strong>in</strong> anyo<strong>the</strong>r manner transform<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> orig<strong>in</strong>al work.Law 65-00 provides a non-limitative list of protected works, such as writtenworks (books, prospects, magaz<strong>in</strong>es, etc.), conferences and speeches, dramaticand musical plays, works of choreography and pantomime, musical compositions,audiovisual works, draw<strong>in</strong>gs pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>gs, architectural, sculpture, carv<strong>in</strong>gand o<strong>the</strong>r artistic works, photographs, applied arts, maps, illustrations and plasticworks related to geography or o<strong>the</strong>r sciences, computer programs and databases.Fur<strong>the</strong>rmore,Law 65-00 protects,and regulates <strong>the</strong> exercise of related or neighbour<strong>in</strong>grights, <strong>in</strong> order to fight effectively <strong>the</strong> illegal retransmission of TV programsand <strong>the</strong> unlawful reproduction of music productions that was one of <strong>the</strong>ma<strong>in</strong> gaps under our previous legislation. Related rights are granted to perform<strong>in</strong>gartists for <strong>the</strong>ir performances, phonogram producers for <strong>the</strong>ir record<strong>in</strong>gs,and broadcasters (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g orig<strong>in</strong>al broadcasts by way of cable, opticalfibre or o<strong>the</strong>r) for <strong>the</strong>ir radio and television programs.Law 65-00 protects works from authors hav<strong>in</strong>g Dom<strong>in</strong>ican nationality or resid<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> country, or who are nationals or residents of countries belong<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong><strong>in</strong>ternational treaties ratified by <strong>the</strong> Dom<strong>in</strong>ican <strong>Republic</strong>, as well as works whosefirst publication has been made <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> country (or <strong>in</strong> a member country of ratified<strong>in</strong>ternational treaties) or that have been published here (or <strong>in</strong> a membercountry of ratified <strong>in</strong>ternational treaties) thirty days after <strong>the</strong>ir first publication.In <strong>the</strong> absence of <strong>in</strong>ternational treaties, protection will still be granted to foreignworks, but subject to reciprocity.b) Content of CopyrightAuthors are <strong>the</strong> orig<strong>in</strong>al holders of <strong>in</strong>tellectual property rights over <strong>the</strong>ir creations.Any rights granted <strong>the</strong>reafter to o<strong>the</strong>r parties, by virtue of law or contract, have aderivative nature.Authors have both moral and economic rights over <strong>the</strong>ir creations. Moral rightsentitle authors to <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g:To get <strong>the</strong> credit for <strong>the</strong>ir creation,To object to any changes that may affect <strong>the</strong> merit of <strong>the</strong>ir creation,Not to publish <strong>the</strong>ir creation or ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong> it anonymous, andTo take <strong>the</strong>ir creation out of circulation provided <strong>the</strong>y have compensated anydamages aris<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>refrom.Moral rights are <strong>in</strong>herent to authors <strong>the</strong>mselves. After <strong>the</strong>ir death, <strong>the</strong>se rights(apart from <strong>the</strong> right to take <strong>the</strong> creation out of circulation) pass on to <strong>the</strong>ir heirs,or to <strong>the</strong> State <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> absence of legal heirs.Economic rights allow authors to exploit <strong>the</strong>ir creation through any exist<strong>in</strong>g orfuture means of utilisation, publication, divulgation, copy<strong>in</strong>g or distribution, and togrant licenses to o<strong>the</strong>r parties for such purposes. Means of utilisation are <strong>in</strong>dependentfrom each o<strong>the</strong>r, and authors may thus assign <strong>the</strong>ir copyrights separately
