If <strong>the</strong> applicant is a shareholder <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> company, certified copy of BoardResolution stat<strong>in</strong>g his status <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> company;j. If <strong>the</strong> applicant is a manager or technician, orig<strong>in</strong>al work contract or letter ofappo<strong>in</strong>tment;k. If <strong>the</strong> application <strong>in</strong>cludes <strong>the</strong> spouse and/or m<strong>in</strong>or children, <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g<strong>do</strong>cuments must be filed <strong>in</strong> addition: marriage certificate and <strong>the</strong> <strong>do</strong>cumentsreferred to <strong>in</strong> a), b), c), d), f), g) and h). For m<strong>in</strong>ors, requirement f) is notnecessary;l. For applicants more than 16 years old four samples of each <strong>do</strong>cument mustbe filed (one orig<strong>in</strong>al and three copies). O<strong>the</strong>rwise, it is sufficient to file twosets of each <strong>do</strong>cument;m. All of <strong>the</strong> <strong>do</strong>cuments issued abroad must be duly translated <strong>in</strong>to Spanish andlegalized by <strong>the</strong> respective Dom<strong>in</strong>ican Consulate.2ACQUIRINGDOMINICANNATIONALITY127Dom<strong>in</strong>ican nationality is normally acquired:1. By be<strong>in</strong>g born <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Dom<strong>in</strong>ican territory,2. By hav<strong>in</strong>g a Dom<strong>in</strong>ican parent, or3. Through <strong>the</strong> naturalization procedure exam<strong>in</strong>ed hereafter.RESIDENCE REQUIREMENTSApart from o<strong>the</strong>r special cases provided by law, a foreign person may become aDom<strong>in</strong>ican citizen after a cont<strong>in</strong>uous residence <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> country of at least twoyears.This residence requirement is reduced to six months:1. If <strong>the</strong> foreigner has fixed legal <strong>do</strong>micile <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> country,2. If <strong>the</strong> foreigner owns a <strong>bus<strong>in</strong>ess</strong> or real state <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> country, or3. If <strong>the</strong> foreigner has married a Dom<strong>in</strong>ican citizen.Trips abroad of up to a year made with <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>tention of return<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong>Dom<strong>in</strong>ican <strong>Republic</strong> are not considered as an <strong>in</strong>terruption of cont<strong>in</strong>uous residence<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> country.NATURALIZATION PROCEDUREThe naturalization request is made to <strong>the</strong> President of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Republic</strong> via <strong>the</strong>M<strong>in</strong>istry of Police and Inner Affairs, and should <strong>in</strong>clude <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g:1. Basis on which <strong>the</strong> nationality is requested.2. Police record issued by <strong>the</strong> appropriate authority of <strong>the</strong> country of orig<strong>in</strong>.3. Birth certificate.4. Explanation if <strong>the</strong> applicant has already changed its nationality.5. Receipt of payment of taxes of RD$10.00 at <strong>the</strong> Tax Office.
