5.4.3 Economic opportunities within IYLMBeside the recommendations indicated in the Intsika Yethu LED Strategy 2020 concerning institutionalarrangements, the <strong>municipality</strong> should explore the rich tourism potential by developing of priority tourismclusters, which could become the key journey components in the IYLM LED Strategy 2020 action <strong>plan</strong>.5.4.4 TourismAccording to the White paper on <strong>Development</strong> and Promotion of Tourism in South Africa (1996), LocalMunicipality has the responsibility of <strong>plan</strong>ning, development and maintenance of Tourism product intheir areas of Jurisdiction. In line with this principles, the Tourism <strong>plan</strong> for IYLM, Responsible TourismSector Plan (2008). The vision for tourism development in the IYLM area is:Vision for Tourism‘A responsible and sustainable tourism destination of choice for historical and adventurous experiencesin the Eastern Cape’Mission for Tourism‘To become a responsible and sustainable tourism destination of choice in the Eastern Cape, providinghistorical and adventurous experiences by 2020 to benefit the <strong>local</strong> communities’.The focus of the strategy is on marketing, product development, infrastructure development, humanresource development and an appropriate institutional framework that will support tourism developmentin the area. This is achieved through the following Strategic goals and objectives:Goal 1: To develop new tourism products to grow the destination;Goal 2: To increase the participation of Local Communities in the tourism industry of the IYLM;Goal 3: To ensure a high quality visitor experience in the IYLM; andGoal 4: To extensively market IYLM as a tourism destination.The following table details the tourism offerings, location, and type to provide an overview of tourismwithin IYLM.76
