The BREEAMmeasures include aspects related toenergy and water use, the internalenvironment (health and well-being),pollution, transport, materials, waste,ecology and management processes.Green spacesThe Estates Team has carried out anumber of improvements to encouragewildlife and enhance biodiversity aroundthe hospital sites. Around 30 bird boxeshave been installed, covered duck housesprovided around the lake, log piles havebeen formed to encourage biodiversityand a wildflower site has also been trialledto encourage nectar feeding bees andother insects. The Trust has also beentrialling green pest control in the form of aHarris Hawk.Staff engagement andcommunicationsThe Trust is committed to ensuringstaff, patients, visitors and suppliers/contractors are able to effectivelyengage with, and support, the carbonreduction plan. The Trust is the secondNHS organisation to take part in theGreen Impact Scheme, an environmentalaccreditation and awareness schemerun by the National Union of Students.Currently 17 teams have signed up tothe scheme and an awards ceremonywill be held in July to reward staffon their sustainable actions.
