Provisions in this code applies to all kinds of seagoing ships which engage in the<br />
following activities: (1) carrying cargo, passengers and their effects, (2) exploiting,<br />
exploring and processing maritime resources at sea, and (3) conducting other<br />
activities for economic purposes, ships of which shall hereinafter be referred to<br />
as merchant ships (Article 3 of Chapter 1). It is also provided that seagoing ships<br />
as referred to in this Code means floating vessels, with or without engines, which<br />
engage in activities at sea and in navigable water (Article l of Chapter 1).
