c.) Size. The minimum pool surface area shall be five hundred square feet (500 s. f.), exceptwhere otherwise described in this article. Calculations <strong>for</strong> determining size of a pool <strong>and</strong> thenumber <strong>and</strong> type of associated facilities shall be based on t he maximum bathing load (seeAppendix – Figure #3). Pool usage shall not exceed the maximum bathing load. The bathingload shall be calculated on the basis of one person <strong>for</strong> each twelve square feet (12 s.f.) ofpool surface area where the depth is less than or equal to five feet (5’); one (1) person <strong>for</strong>each fifteen square feet (15 s.f.) of pool surface in that portion where the depth exceeds fivefeet ( 5’); <strong>and</strong> 1 pe rson f or e very t hree hundr ed s quare f eet ( 300 s .f.) where one o r m orediving boards/plat<strong>for</strong>ms are installed. T he department shall determine the bathing load <strong>for</strong>any pool that is designated as a “Special Purpose” pool or any pool with use restrictions. Water depths shall be determined by the intended use of the pool. Depth at theslope-break shall not be greater than five feet (5’) <strong>for</strong> pools with depths exceeding five feet(5’). In the diving well, depth shall be as stipulated in the section entitled “Diving Areas <strong>and</strong>Equipment”.(1) Depth markers. Permanent, easily-readable, depth markers shall be provided withminimum f our i nch ( 4”) hi gh, bl ack num bers a nd l etters w ith a w hite b ackground,indicated in feet <strong>and</strong>, when applicable, in inches (i.e., 5 FT or 5 FEET; 3 FT 6 IN or 3FEET 6 INCHES). M etric depth markings can be used in conjunction with, but notas a substitute <strong>for</strong> required depth markers. The depth of water shall be indicated onthe ve rtical pool w all a t or a bove the w aterline. D epth markers s hall indi cate theactual pool de pth w ithin t hree i nches ( 3”) a t nor mal ope rating w ater l evel w henmeasured three feet (3’) from the pool wall or at a tangent point where the cove radiusmeets the floor, whichever is deeper. Depth markers on the vertical pool wall shall bepositioned to be read from the waterside. D epth markers shall be placed in such away that they allow as much of the numerical value to be visible above the waterlineas possible. Deck depth markers shall be installed within eighteen inches (18”) of thepool wall <strong>and</strong> positioned to be read while st<strong>and</strong>ing on the deck facing the pool water.Horizontal depth markers shall be slip resisting. Depth markers shall be installed atthe maximum <strong>and</strong> minimum water depths <strong>and</strong> at all points of slope change. D epthmarkers shall be installed at intermediate increments of water depth not to exceed twofeet (2’ ) <strong>and</strong> not to exceed four f eet ( 4’) i n pool ar eas de signated <strong>for</strong> di ving ar eas.Depth markers shall be spaced not to exceed twenty-five foot (25’) intervals. D epthmarkers shall be arranged uni<strong>for</strong>mly on both sides <strong>and</strong> both ends of the pool. Depthmarkers on irregularly-shaped pools shall designate depths at all major deviations inshape.(2) “No diving” markers.
