The pr ovisions f or t raining s hall b ecome e ffective t wo ( 2) years after da te o fenactment of this article <strong>for</strong> existing pools <strong>and</strong> shall become effective immediately <strong>for</strong> newpools.c.) Record keeping. Each pool ope rator s hall m aintain a da ily record o f ope ratingin<strong>for</strong>mation, t ogether w ith ot her da ta a s m ay be r equired f or each p ool r elative t o theoperation of the pool. The records shall include data on disinfectant levels, pH, maintenanceprocedures, together with such other data as may be required by the department relative tothe maintenance of the pool. Daily records <strong>and</strong> other operational data s hall be maintainedonsite <strong>and</strong> shall be made available to representatives of the department upon request. Thepool ope rator s hall be responsible f or c losing t he pool w hen ne cessary a nd e xcludingunauthorized persons from entering the pool area.d.) Lifesaving equipment. Each pool shall be provided with a shepherd’s hook attached to anon-telescoping pole, with a minimum length of fourteen feet (14’), <strong>and</strong> made with a bluntend. Each pool shall be provided with a United States Coast Guard approved lifesaving ringhaving an outside diameter of fifteen to twenty-four inches (15”-24”), firmly attached to aone-quarter inch to three-eighths inch (¼"- ⅜”) diameter throwing rope that is as long as one<strong>and</strong> one half (1½) times the maximum width of the pool, or fifty feet (50’), whichever is less.Additional sets of lifesaving equipment are required <strong>for</strong> pools longer than fifty feet (50’) <strong>and</strong>shall be provided <strong>for</strong> each fifty feet (50’) of pool length or major fraction thereof. Lifesavingequipment shall be mounted in a conspicuous place within the pool enclosure <strong>and</strong> be readilyavailable <strong>for</strong> use <strong>and</strong> in good condition.e.) Lifeguards. Lifeguards, if provided, shall have current lifeguarding <strong>and</strong> CPR certificationby the American Red Cross, the YMCA, National Pool <strong>and</strong> Waterpark Lifeguard Program, orcomparable, nationally recognized certifying organization. Either the original certificates orphotocopies t hereof s hall be m aintained a t the f acility <strong>and</strong> s hall be made a vailable t orepresentatives of the department upon request.f.) Lifeguard chairs. If provided, lifeguard chairs s hall be located t o pr ovide l ifeguards aclear, unobs tructed vi ew of t he e ntire pool , i ncluding t he pool bot tom a t i ts de epest poi nt.Lifeguard chairs shall only be occupied by a qualified lifeguard at all times the pool is open.g.) No lifeguard on duty. W here no l ifeguard i s on dut y, s igns s hall be pos ted i n aconspicuous location at the entrance to the pool area <strong>and</strong> within the pool area stating, in clearlegible letters at least four inches (4”) high, “WARNING - NO LIFEGUARD ON DUTY.”h.) Telephone. A n operable, hard-wired, weatherproof telephone, with direct 911 access orcapability installed in a conspicuous location shall be readily available at all times within thepool e nclosure. D irections t o t elephone l ocations m ust be c onspicuously pos ted i f t hetelephone is not readily visible in the pool area.i.) Emergency telephone numbers. A sign stating “EMERGENCY 911” shall be posted at the<strong>Cobb</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Douglas</strong> <strong>County</strong> Public Health<strong>Douglas</strong> <strong>Rules</strong> <strong>and</strong> Regs <strong>for</strong> <strong>Swimming</strong> <strong>Pools</strong>34
