If an automatic controller <strong>for</strong> adjusting chemical levels is to beused at a pool, the device <strong>and</strong> connections thereof shall be installed in accordance with themanufacturer’s instructions. The device must be directly wired to the recirculation pump <strong>and</strong>a f low s witch, such that w hen the pum p stops, the che mical feeders ar e s witched off.Automatic controllers must be submitted <strong>for</strong> approval by the department prior to installation.An automatic pool chemical controller, if approved <strong>for</strong> installation, shall not substitute <strong>for</strong>the requirement to manually per<strong>for</strong>m onsite chemical pool water tests.k.) Chemical storage. A ll pools shall have an adequate, safe <strong>and</strong> secure designated storagearea <strong>for</strong> pool chemicals. If us ed, dedicated chemical storage rooms m ust ha ve ve ntilationwith one air change every three minutes exhausted to the exterior away from occupied areas.Chemical vaults or storage containers must not allow a person to enter inside.l.) Fail-safe feature. Fail-safe features approved by the department shall be incorporated toprevent the pool chemicals from siphoning or being fed directly into the pool, pool piping,water supply, or pool enclosure if the circulation equipment is not in operation or fails.Part 19 Equipment Rooma.) Equipment Room or Enclosure. P umps, di sinfection e quipment, f ilters, a ppurtenances<strong>and</strong> a ny ot her a pproved e quipment s hall be l ocated i n a pe rmanent r oom, or c ompletelyenclosed area. The entry door shall open to the exterior of the equipment room or enclosure<strong>and</strong> shall be kept locked except <strong>for</strong> servicing the pool equipment. T he equipment room orenclosure a nd a ny s torage a rea us ed f or pool s upplies, a dditional e quipment, or c hemicalsshall be ke pt clean, s afe a nd adequately lighted. A pproved overhead protection s hall b eprovided to completely cover the entire equipment room or enclosure.b.) Ventilation <strong>and</strong> drainage. Suitable drainage (such as a sump pump or floor drain) <strong>and</strong>ventilation of f resh m ake-up a ir m ust be pr ovided f or a ll e quipment r ooms. Above gr adeequipment rooms or e nclosures shall ha ve either f orced draft o r cr oss v entilation. B elowgrade equipment rooms or enclosures shall have stairway access <strong>and</strong> <strong>for</strong>ced ventilation. Theopen area <strong>for</strong> cross ventilation shall be calculated as at least five p ercent (5%) o f the totalwall area of the enclosure. The total cross ventilated area shall be comprised of a louveredopening or louvered door <strong>and</strong> an additional louvered opening on at least one other side of theenclosure. Forced draft ventilation shall require a chlorine-resistant exhaust fan, capable ofproviding one ( 1) e nclosure a ir c hange e very t hree ( 3) m inutes <strong>and</strong> a vent w ith l ouverslocated in a n e quipment r oom w all or door . The e xhaust f an s hall be i nstalled s o a s t oexhaust the equipment room air away from the pool enclosure <strong>and</strong> adjacent inhabited areas.The entire enclosure shall have a smooth concrete floor that slopes one-quarter inch per foot(¼” / 1’ ) to a f loor dr ain c onnected t o an a pproved s ewage di sposal s ystem.
