(4) Thermometer. All w hirlpools s hall ha ve a non -mercury based, shatter-proofthermometer that is in close proximity to <strong>and</strong> can be viewed by bathers at all times.b.) Circulation system.(1) Circulation. T he c irculation e quipment s hall be ope rated c ontinuously on atwenty-four ( 24) hour b asis t o obt ain t he m inimum r equired r ate of one t urnoverevery thirty (30) minutes. A minimum of one (1) skimmer shall be provided <strong>and</strong> one(1) additional skimmer shall be provided <strong>for</strong> each one hundred square feet (100 s. f.)of w hirlpool s urface a rea or fra ction thereof beyond t he i nitial one hund red s quarefeet (100 s. f.) of the whirlpool. Air intakes <strong>for</strong> therapy pumps shall be protected withan approved screen or grate, shall be located within the equipment room, <strong>and</strong> shallhave the intake opening installed at least twelve inches (12”) from the surface of thefloor.(2) Inlets. A minimum of two (2) inlets shall be provided. The number of inletsshall be calculated based upon one inlet per ten feet (10’) or major fraction thereof ofwhirlpool perimeter. Inlets shall be located as close to the floor as possible or in thefloor. No inlet shall be less than eighteen inches (18”) below the normal water level.Hydrotherapy inlets shall be installed flush with the pool wall or floor.(3) Suction outlets. Source water <strong>for</strong> hydrotherapy systems shall be through the maindrains, a s urge chamber, or ot her a pproved d evice. S ufficient f low a rea s hall beprovided s o t hat t he c ombined or s eparate circulation a nd h ydrotherapy full-flowvelocity through the main drain grates or suction outlets does not exceed one <strong>and</strong> onehalffeet per second (1½ f.p.s.). A minimum of two (2) main drains or suction outlets<strong>for</strong> each circulation system or hydrotherapy system suction line shall be provided <strong>and</strong>spaced evenly <strong>and</strong> as f ar apa rt as pos sible i n the de epest portion of t he w hirlpoolfloor; or , l ocated on t wo ( 2) di fferent w hirlpool surface pl anes, i .e., on e (1) on t hebottom <strong>and</strong> one (1) on the opposite vertical wall at the lowest point.c.) Safety equipment. W hirlpools with surface areas less than two hundred <strong>and</strong> fifty squarefeet (250 s. f.) are exempt from the safety equipment requirements stated in Part 23, “Safety”,d.) Lifesaving equipment.
