diving board.Part 21 Lightinga.) Lighting required. Artificial lighting shall be provided <strong>for</strong> all pools. Lighting shall beadequate to illuminate t he e ntire s wimming p ool a nd enclosure w ithout g lare. E lectricalwiring, fixtures, a nd i nstallation s hall c on<strong>for</strong>m t o a ll a pplicable s tate, c ounty a nd l ocalbuilding c ode requirements. G round-fault i nterrupters m ust be pr ovided. Light f ixtureslocated within the pool area shall be protected by a shatter-resistant lens. Underwater lightswith a colored lens or bulb are prohibited. Supplemental lighting, such as fiber optics, shallnot be considered as the primary source <strong>for</strong> pool lighting.b.) Lighting requirements. Lighting i n dr essing r ooms, s anitary f acilities, a nd e quipmentrooms shall comply with the local code requirements. Pool <strong>and</strong> deck areas shall be lighted inaccordance with the following minimum requirements:(1) Underwater Lighting. A mini mum of 0.5 watts underwater l ighting per s quarefoot of pool s urface a rea s hall be pr ovided. Underwater l ight f ixtures s hall beinstalled so as to effectively illuminate the entire pool.(2) Deck <strong>and</strong> Pool Lighting. A minimum of twenty (20) foot c<strong>and</strong>les at 30 i nches(30”) shall be maintained in service on all deck areas.Part 22 Sanitary Facilitiesa.) Sanitary facilities required. Required sanitary facilities inc luding toi lets, urinals,lavatories <strong>and</strong> showers are to be enclosed in a bathhouse <strong>and</strong> are required at all new pools,except <strong>for</strong> those pools that meet the criteria stated in subsection (b) below. In determining thenumber of sanitary fixtures required, the minimum bathing load as determined by AppendixFigure #3. E ach pool shall have the “Maximum Bather Load” de termined at t ime of pl anreview. The bathing load composition shall be assumed to be one-half (½) men <strong>and</strong> one-half(½) women. The bathhouse <strong>and</strong> sanitary facilities shall be maintained in a clean <strong>and</strong> sanitarycondition. A s t<strong>and</strong>ard a rchitectural dr awing of t he ba thhouse s howing t he l ayout of t hefacility, the location of all fixtures, the flooring, including drainage <strong>and</strong> slopes, <strong>and</strong> any otherpertinent inf ormation that the de partment de ems ne cessary to ensure c ompliance with thisarticle, shall be s ubmitted f or a pproval b y t he department pr ior t o a ny w ork pe r<strong>for</strong>med.Fixtures s hall be i nstalled i n a ccordance w ith applicable pl umbing c odes a nd s hall beproperly protected to prevent cross-connections.b.) Sanitary facilities. If all dwelling units have individual sanitary facilities <strong>and</strong> are locatedwithin three hundred feet 300’ of the pool, as measured from the inside the nearest pool wall,no additional s anitary f acilities w ill be r equired. If s anitary facilities a re pr ovided but notrequired <strong>for</strong> bathers, they shall meet all requirements of this article except <strong>for</strong> the number of<strong>Cobb</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Douglas</strong> <strong>County</strong> Public Health<strong>Douglas</strong> <strong>Rules</strong> <strong>and</strong> Regs <strong>for</strong> <strong>Swimming</strong> <strong>Pools</strong>31
