“Renovation” means an y two or more major mo difications as defined in this section of anexisting pool a nd/or f acility i nvolving r eplacement or r econstruction of e quipment, poolsurface, bathhouse, <strong>and</strong>/or deck, or similar changes.“Required” means m<strong>and</strong>ated by local, state or federal authorities or appropriate jurisdiction.“Ritual pool” means a pool in which only baptisms <strong>and</strong> other similar religious functions areconducted.“Run Out” means a modular pool that is approximately four feet (4’) wide <strong>and</strong> twenty feet(20’) or more in length that is used as an integral part of a water slide.“Seasonal pool” means a pool that is opened <strong>for</strong> a few months during the calendar year, isthen closed <strong>and</strong> reopens the next year during the same approximate time period.“Shallow area or shallow end” means the area of a pool where water depths are less than orequal to five feet (5’).“Slip Resisting” m eans a s urface t hat ha s be en s o treated or cons tructed to significantlyreduce t he ch ance of a user s lipping. T he s urface s hall ha ve a m inimum coe fficient offriction of 0.6, wet or dry, <strong>and</strong> not be an abrasion hazard.“Special purpose pool” m eans a ny pool de signed a nd us ed pr imarily f or training, medicalpurposes, physical therapy, exercise, or other approved purposes.“Splash pool” means a pool designed <strong>and</strong> operated primarily to receive bathers from a waterslide.“Spray pool” means an artificial pool or area into which water complying with this article isjetted but is not allowed to settle.“Surge device” means a structure <strong>and</strong>/or mechanical means <strong>for</strong> automatically compensating<strong>for</strong> the displacement of pool water from the pool by bathers, waves or similar actions in orderto maintain the pool’s normal operating water level.“Sun / Tanning shelf or shelf” means a level, extended area of the pool surface, not locatedwithin the internal pool structure that is intended <strong>for</strong> bathers to sit or lie down in a shallowdepth of pool water.“<strong>Swimming</strong> pool” or “pool” means a w atertight structure composed of concrete, masonry orother a pproved m aterial a nd f inish, l ocated e ither i ndoors or out doors, w hich i s us ed ordesigned t o b e us ed b y hum ans f or ba thing, r ecreation, di ving or ot her r elated pur poses,together w ith t he bui ldings, a ppurtenances a nd equipment r equired or u sed i n c onnectiontherewith. A swimming pool or pool may be publicly or privately owned, <strong>and</strong> is operated bya person, as defined in this article, regardless whether or not a fee is charged <strong>for</strong> admission<strong>and</strong> use. “ Pool” also means any swimming pool, whirlpool, wading pool, spray pool, slidepool, m ulti-purpose pool , z ero-depth e ntry po ol, i nteractive pl ay a ttraction, or s pecial<strong>Cobb</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Douglas</strong> <strong>County</strong> Public Health<strong>Douglas</strong> <strong>Rules</strong> <strong>and</strong> Regs <strong>for</strong> <strong>Swimming</strong> <strong>Pools</strong>6
