(1) Operation. The generation of waves more than three feet (3’) in height above thenormal, calm water level, regardless of the depth of the pool, shall not continue <strong>for</strong>more than fifteen (15) minutes at a time, with a minimum of three (3) minutes of calmwater or no waves between each fifteen (15) minute period.(2) Circulation. The turnover rate <strong>for</strong> wave pools shall be a minimum of three (3)hours.(3) Access. B athers must gain access to a wave pool only at the shallow end. T hesides of t he pool m ust be g uarded from una uthorized e ntry i nto t he pool b y a napproved barrier.(4) H<strong>and</strong>holds. Each w ave pool must be provided with approved h <strong>and</strong>holds at thestatic water level. H<strong>and</strong>holds must be self-draining <strong>and</strong> must be installed so that theirouter e dge i s f lush w ith t he pool w all. T he de sign of ha ndholds m ust e nsure t hatbody extremities will not become entangled.(5) Life jackets. Life jackets must be provided free <strong>for</strong> use by bathers upon request.(6) Lifeguard. Qualified l ifeguard(s) s hall be stationed a t t he w ave p ool dur ingoperation per American Red Cross Guidelines.(7) Shut-off switch. A clearly labeled emergency shut-off switch <strong>for</strong> control of waveaction shall be installed <strong>and</strong> readily accessible to each of the required lifeguard(s) onduty.(8) Warning system. An audible <strong>and</strong> visible warning system must be provided at thewave pool area t o a lert us ers of t he be ginning of w ave generation a nd to pr ovidesufficient time <strong>for</strong> bathers to exit the pool be<strong>for</strong>e the beginning of wave generation.(9) Stepholes <strong>and</strong> h<strong>and</strong>rails. Stepholes a nd ha ndrails m ust be pr ovided a t one ormore l ocations along t he w all of t he wave po ol <strong>and</strong> in accordance w ith Part 9,“Construction”, f.) “ Steps <strong>and</strong> ladders”. T he s tepholes a nd h <strong>and</strong>rails m ust e xtenddown the pool wall so they will be accessible during wave generation at the lowestwater level. The distance between the outside part of the h<strong>and</strong>rail <strong>and</strong> the pool wallmust not exceed six inches (6”).Part 35 Watercourse <strong>Pools</strong>a.) Application.
