Part 14 S<strong>and</strong> Filtersa.) Appurtenances. E ach filter tank shall have an access port <strong>for</strong> inspection <strong>and</strong> servicing.Each filter shall have both influent <strong>and</strong> effluent pressure gauges with a minimum face size oftwo inches ( 2”). The f ilter s ystem s hall ha ve an ade quately s ized, i n-line ba ckwash s ightglass on t he b ackwash line. All a ppurtenances shall be c onspicuously located f or qui ckinspection.b.) Piping <strong>and</strong> valves. The f iltering s ystem s hall be de signed with all va lves a nd pipingrequired that allows filtering to pool, filtering to waste, filter bypass to waste, <strong>and</strong> completedrainage of the system. The piping layout shall accommodate proper maintenance, operation<strong>and</strong> inspection.Part 15 Diatomaceous Earth Filtersa.) Filter tank <strong>and</strong> septa. The filter area shall be determined on the basis of effective filteringsurfaces, w ith no allowance given <strong>for</strong> areas o f i mpaired filtration, such as br oad s upports,folds or portions which may bridge the filter elements. T he bottom of open vacuum filtertanks shall slope to a drain to facilitate complete drainage of the tanks.b.) Appurtenances. Pressure filters shall be equipped with an air-relief valve, influent <strong>and</strong>effluent pressure gauges with a minimum face size of two inches (2”), <strong>and</strong> an in-line sightglass on the backwash line. A vacuum gauge with a minimum face size of two inches (2”)shall be provided on t he pump suction line <strong>for</strong> vacuum filter systems. All appurtenancesshall be conspicuously located <strong>for</strong> quick inspection.c.) Piping <strong>and</strong> valves. The filtering system shall be designed with all valves <strong>and</strong> pipingthat a llows filtering t o pool, pr e-coat r ecirculation a nd/or pr e-coat t o waste, completedrainage of t he s ystem, bypass f ilter t o waste, <strong>and</strong> ba ckwashing t o w aste. T he pi pinglayout s hall a ccommodate pr oper m aintenance, ope ration <strong>and</strong> i nspection. If p re-coatrecirculation is used in a pressure system, an in-line sight glass, minimum two inches (2”)in length, <strong>and</strong> a valve shall be provided in the pre-coat piping.Part 16 Cartridge Filtersa.)
