Part 27 Waterslides / Splash <strong>Pools</strong>a.) Application. All elements of this article <strong>for</strong> swimming pools shall apply to any pool usedin whole or part as a splash pool <strong>for</strong> a waterslide(s) with the following additional provisions:b.) Construction.(1) Design, construction <strong>and</strong> maintenance. All slides <strong>and</strong> slide components shall beconstructed <strong>and</strong> maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications <strong>and</strong>this article so that they will not constitute a safety, physical or health hazard given itsnormal intended use <strong>and</strong> purpose. Design <strong>and</strong> materials used in construction shall bein accordance w ith proper s tructural engineering p ractice <strong>for</strong> p roviding a s ound,durable structure.(2) Flume clearances. The distance between the side of a flume exit <strong>and</strong> a pool sidewall shall be at least five (5’) feet <strong>and</strong> the distance between sides of adjacent flumeexits s hall be a t le ast s ix ( 6’) f eet, or i n accordance with the s lide m anufacturer’srecommendations, whichever i s t he greater di stance. T he di stance be tween flumeexits a nd the oppos ite s ide of t he pool or end of a r un out , e xcluding s teps a ndh<strong>and</strong>rails, shall b e at l east t wenty feet ( 20’) or, i n a ccordance w ith t he slidemanufacturer’s recommendations, whichever is the greater distance. If more than onewaterslide or flume is present, then both flume terminals shall be constructed parallelto each other or to any pool or run out sidewall or other pool structure.(3) High-speed slides. Special provisions, approved by the department, shall be madein flume exit design, pool depth <strong>and</strong> pool width as measured from the flume exit, tosafely ac commodate hi gh-speed slides i n accordance w ith the slide m anufacturer’sinstructions.(4) Flume terminus. The f lume s hall te rminate in accordance w ith t he s lidemanufacturer’s r ecommendations. T he f lume t erminus s hall be pa rallel w ith thevertical pool wall, or in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.(5) Splash pool depths. The operating water depth of the splash pool at the end of aflume shall be three feet (3’) or in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions,whichever is the greater depth. T his depth shall be maintained in front of the flume<strong>for</strong> a distance of at least twenty feet (20’).(6) Run outs. If permitted, run outs shall be constructed in accordance with the slidemanufacturer’s recommendations.(7) Access to slide. A surfaced walkway, steps or stairway shall be provided betweenthe pool <strong>and</strong> the top of the flume. T he access to the top of the slide shall be slipresistant <strong>and</strong> not allow <strong>for</strong> st<strong>and</strong>ing water, be separated from the flume by a physicalbarrier, set back far enough from the operating flume such that it cannot be contactedby us ers on t he way do wn t he s lide.
