The maximum gaps in decks, between pool decks <strong>and</strong> thecoping, or between other decks or walkways, shall be one half inch (½”) of horizontalclearance with a maximum vertical elevation of one quarter inch (¼”). Control jointsin decks shall be provided to minimize the potential <strong>for</strong> cracks. C onstruction jointswhere pool coping m eets c oncrete de ck(s) or other a djacent s tructures s hall bewatertight.(9) Deck edges. The edge a nd corners of d eck(s) s hall be rounded, t apered o rdesigned <strong>and</strong> constructed to eliminate sharp corners.(10) Trash receptacle. A minimum of one (1) covered <strong>and</strong> lined trash receptacle shallbe provided <strong>and</strong> placed in a convenient location in the pool area.i.) Construction tolerances. Construction <strong>and</strong> design tolerances shall comply with the currentedition of the ANSI/NSPI-1, “American National St<strong>and</strong>ard <strong>for</strong> Public <strong>Swimming</strong> <strong>Pools</strong>.”Part 10 Water Quality <strong>and</strong> Sanitationa.) Water source. Water supplied to the pool, bathhouse, drinking fountain, hose bibs, or anyother water s upply o r o utlet s hall be clean, clear, free of obj ectionable minerals <strong>and</strong> meetst<strong>and</strong>ards applicable to potable water. Water supplied to the pool must be delivered through afill spout with a minimum three inch (3”) air gap, installed at least two (2) pipe diametersabove the rim of the pool or surge chamber, <strong>and</strong> located so as not to create an obstruction onthe de ck o r t hrough a make-up water s ystem with a de partment approved b ackflowprevention de vice that is ins talled in a loc ation which is r eadily a ccessible f or i nspection,repair or testing.b.) Backflow prevention. A pproved ba ckflow pr evention m ust be pr ovided on a ll pot ablewater lines.c.) Pool water. A s ufficient num ber of s amples m ay b e t aken, whenever t he d epartmentdeems ne cessary, to affirm, via ba cteriological a nalysis, that the pool w ater me ets therequirements in this article. Samples shall be taken while the pool is in use during normaloperational hour s. A ll s amples s hall be c ollected, de -chlorinated, a nd e xamined i naccordance with the procedures outlined in the latest edition of “St<strong>and</strong>ard Methods <strong>for</strong> theExamination of W ater <strong>and</strong> Wastewater” ( American Public H ealth Association) <strong>and</strong>/ orapproved equivalent by the department.(1) Chemical Quality. The pool s hall be m aintained i n a n a lkaline c ondition a t a lltimes with the pH between 7.2 <strong>and</strong> 7.8. Chlorine disinfection shall be provided on allpools e xcept w hen ot her a pproved di sinfection m ethods a re utilized. T he f reechlorineresidual in all parts of the pool shall be maintained at a concentration of noless than one <strong>and</strong> one-half parts per million (1.5 ppm) at all times. Where stabilizingagents are used, a free-chlorine residual shall be maintained at a concentration of no<strong>Cobb</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Douglas</strong> <strong>County</strong> Public Health<strong>Douglas</strong> <strong>Rules</strong> <strong>and</strong> Regs <strong>for</strong> <strong>Swimming</strong> <strong>Pools</strong>18
