IN EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIPThe specialist degree in Educational Leadership aligns with the conceptual frameworkof the college, The Transformational Leader, and is correlated with the latest nationalstandards in educational leadership, as established by the ELCC (EducationalLeadership Constituent Council). The degree program includes two tracks: one for building-levelP-12 school leaders and another for system-level P-12 school leaders. Two separatedegree options exist: 1) degree-only (30 hours, does not lead to certification unlessthe performance-based certification option is completed) and 2) performance-based (33hours, leads to PL-6 certification eligibility).Program Goals for the Ed.S. in Educational Leadership1. To prepare building-level and system–level educational leaders forGeorgia’s schools. Research and experience indicate that principals and supervisorsplay a crucial role in the success of our schools. Genuine school improvementtakes place in the local school or district setting. The opportunity to educateleaders who will give direction to public schools is significant and meaningful.<strong>Mercer</strong> <strong>University</strong> seeks to prepare dynamic building and system level leaderswho will be transformational in the professional community.2. To meet the growing demands for highly-skilled school leaders in Georgia.The need for highly skilled school leaders is critical for Georgia’s school systems.3. To develop partnerships with public schools and agencies. <strong>Mercer</strong> <strong>University</strong>recognizes the importance of developing partnerships with other institutions andagencies to improve the educational and leadership development of the community.Admission Requirements for the Ed.S. in Educational Leadership:The Ed.S. program is offered with two options: 1) degree only (30 hours) or 2) performance-based(33 hours). In order to be eligible for the performance-based option, applicantsmust meet specific requirements set by the Georgia PSC.To be considered, applicants must:1. Hold a master’s degree from an accredited institution and possess or be eligiblefor a master’s level certificate in a teaching or service field. Performance-basedcandidates must hold a leadership certificate of NPL or higher.2. Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 for all graduate coursework attempted.3. Have completed three years of successful teaching or service experience.4. Submit two official copies of transcripts from all colleges/universities previouslyattended, showing a minimum cumulative graduate GPA of 3.0.5. Pay a $30 application fee.6.
