When a course is repeated, the student is subject to the catalog restriction on the totalnumber of credit hours that may be taken in a single term. With a dean’s approval, a studentwho has a C average or above may, in extraordinary circumstances, be allowed totake the “repeat” course as an overload. A course may be repeated on an audit basis if astudent chooses to do so. A withdrawal grade or an audit in the repeat of a course doesnot serve to delete the computation of the previous grade(s).Courses originally taken on a letter grade basis may not be repeated on a satisfactory/unsatisfactorybasis.Courses taken at another institution will not be accepted as <strong>Mercer</strong> "repeat" credit.The policy on repeating courses for Georgia Baptist College of Nursing and SouthernSchool of Pharmacy students may be found in this catalog within the appropriate sections.These provisions are not applicable to repeated work taken by a <strong>Mercer</strong> studentas a transient at another institution.Transfer CreditCourse work with a grade of C- or better earned at regionally accredited institutionswill be evaluated on a course-by-course basis and considered for transfer as an equivalent<strong>Mercer</strong> course or as elective credit. Remedial or subcollegiate credits will not betransferred. The maximum credit allowed from all two-year colleges attended is 60 semesterhours (90 quarter hours) including also all courses taken as a transient student. A minimumof 32 credits must be earned in residence at <strong>Mercer</strong> <strong>University</strong> for graduationregardless of the number of credits accepted in transfer.The last thirty-two semester credits of academic study applied to the degree at<strong>Mercer</strong> <strong>University</strong> must be completed in residence. After admission, the student’s gradepoint average will be computed on his/her <strong>Mercer</strong> work only. Transfer students are remindedthat they must meet the <strong>Mercer</strong> degree requirements.Blanket credit for General Education requirements will not be awarded for AssociateDegrees. Applicants wishing to receive transfer credit for the courses taken at a communitycollege must provide documentation validating equivalency to corresponding SSBEcore courses.No correspondence work will be accepted for credit toward a degree. <strong>Mercer</strong><strong>University</strong> does accept courses from the Independent Study Programs of the <strong>University</strong>of Georgia for transfer credit; the maximum credit accepted is 10 semester hours. Creditearned under alternative forms of delivery, such as distance learning, will be evaluatedon a case-by-case basis.Undergraduate Transfer and Equivalency Credit PoliciesThe following policies concern academic credit transferred from other accredited institutionsof higher education, and courses taken in other units and at other locations withinthe <strong>University</strong>.1. Semester credits transfer into the <strong>University</strong> on a one-for-one basis. Each quarterhour of credit is awarded 2/3 semester hour of credit. Credits taken in any Schoolor College of the <strong>University</strong> are recognized in all other Schools and Colleges ofthe <strong>University</strong>.2. To fulfill any science general education requirement, transferred courses mustinclude a laboratory component.
