In order to receive grades ofW, a student must complete the Term Withdrawal Form and submit it to the Office of theRegistrar by the published deadline. A student who withdraws after the deadline must completethe form for official withdrawal, but grades of F will be recorded for his/her classes. Inextreme personal circumstances and with appropriate documentation, a student mayappeal to the associate dean of his/her college to have grades of W awarded when officiallywithdrawing after the deadline.Non-attendance or ceasing to attend a course(s) does not constitute an officialschedule change, course withdrawal, or term withdrawal. Failure to officially withdrawwill result in academic and financial penalties.A student who withdraws from a course or from the <strong>University</strong> when a disciplinaryaction or honor code violation is pending is not necessarily exempt from a sanction andthe final outcome may disqualify the student from receiving a refund.Information on <strong>Mercer</strong>'s refund policies can be found in the "Financial Information"section of this catalog.Advance Placement, CLEP, and International BaccalaureateCreditStudents who take Advanced Placement (AP) courses at the high school level and completethe examinations administered by the Educational Testing Service are awarded creditbased on the scores and course equivalent(s), as determined by the appropriate <strong>Mercer</strong>academic department for each exam. No credit may be awarded for scores of 1 or 2.Applicants should request that an official score report from The College Board be sent tothe Office of the Registrar.Credit is also awarded for examinations administered by the College LevelExamination Program (CLEP). Credit is awarded for scores of 50 or higher on the generaland/or subject exams. CLEP credit will not be awarded if a student has already takenthe equivalent college-level course.The International Baccalaureate Program is an internationally recognized curriculumthat is taught at numerous high schools in the United States, Canada, and other countries.<strong>Mercer</strong> awards credit for scores of 5, 6, or 7 on the higher-level examinations of theInternational Baccalaureate Program. Score reports should be included with the student’sfinal high school transcripts or provided by the International Baccalaureate Office. A studentmay receive no more than 30 hours of credit from all course examinations includingAdvanced Placement, CLEP, and the International Baccalaureate Program.Transfer Credit from Foreign InstitutionsIf a student wishes to transfer credits earned at a foreign institution to his/her record at<strong>Mercer</strong>, the student must supply the Registrar's Office with an official copy (still sealed inthe original envelope) of a credit evaluation from a reputable U.S. evaluation service; theevaluation should include all of the credits that the student wishes to transfer to <strong>Mercer</strong>.Once the Registrar's Office receives an official evaluation, the student's foreign credits willbe reviewed to see if they are eligible for transfer to the student's <strong>Mercer</strong> degree. Pleasenote that the registrar makes the final decision when accepting credits from a foreign institution.60 / MERCER UNIVERSITY
