This is the address that will beused for official university e-mail correspondence to students.Student ConductThe <strong>University</strong> expects students to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects theirmaturity and their awareness that matriculation at the <strong>University</strong> is a privilege accordedonly to those who share the ideals of an academic community. Any conduct determinedto have an adverse effect on the <strong>University</strong> community may result in disciplinary action,including dismissal.The Code of Conduct is enforced both on <strong>University</strong> premises and at <strong>University</strong>-sponsoredevents held off campus. Generally, institutional discipline is limited to conduct thatadversely affects the <strong>University</strong>’s pursuit of its educational objectives. The following areexamples of such conduct:1. Obstruction, coercion, intimidation, or abuse of any member of the <strong>Mercer</strong> community.2. Intentional disruption or physical obstruction of teaching, research, and otherinstitutional activities.3. Theft from or damage to <strong>University</strong> facilities or property, or damage to or theft ofthe property of a member of the <strong>University</strong> community.4. Possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages.5. Possession or use of drugs prohibited under federal and/or state statutes.6. Possession of Firearms or weapons, except where authorized by established<strong>University</strong> policy.Any student found guilty of such offenses as the above may be subjected to expulsion,suspension, or such other disciplinary measures as may be deemed appropriate bythe proper authorities of the <strong>University</strong>. The President of the <strong>University</strong> has the responsibilityand power to act as final authority and arbitrator in matters of student discipline andconduct, as set forth in the Charter and Bylaws of the <strong>University</strong>.Additional information regarding the Code of Conduct can be found in the <strong>Atlanta</strong>Supplemental Student Handbook, as well as the handbooks of specific schools and colleges.Honor SocietiesAlpha Phi Sigma (for Graduate Students in Public Safety Leadership)Alpha Phi Sigma is a national honor society whose primary purpose is to recognizeand promote high scholarship among students actively engaged in collegiate preparationfor professional services; to keep abreast of the advances in scientific research; to elevatethe ethical standards of the public safety professions; and to establish in the publicmind the benefit and necessity of education.
