CAUTION<br />

TO PREVENT PERSONAL INJURY, ENSURE THAT COM-<br />

PRESSOR CRANKSHAFT CANNOT BE TURNED BY THE<br />

DRIVER OR COMPRESSOR CYLINDER GAS PRESSURE<br />

DURING MAINTENANCE: -- ON ENGINE-DRIVEN COMPRES-<br />

SORS, REMOVE THE CENTER COUPLING OR LOCK THE<br />

FLYWHEEL. -- ON ELECTRIC MOTOR-DRIVEN COMPRES-<br />

SORS, IF IT IS INCONVIENIENT TO DETACH THE DRIVER<br />

FROM THE COMPRESSOR, THE DRIVER SWITCH GEAR<br />

MUST BE LOCKED OUT DURING MAINTENANCE.<br />

BEFORE STARTING ANY MAINTENANCE OR REMOVING<br />

ANY COMPONENTS, RELIEVE ALL PRESSURE FROM THE<br />

COMPRESSOR CYLINDERS. SEE PACKAGER’S INSTRUC-<br />

TIONS FOR COMPLETELY VENTING THE SYSTEM.<br />

CAUTION<br />

AFTER PERFORMING ANY MAINTENANCE, THE ENTIRE<br />

SYSTEM MUST BE PURGED WITH GAS PRIOR TO OPERA-<br />

TION, TO AVOID A POTENTIALLY EXPLOSIVE AIR/GAS MIX-<br />

TURE.<br />

1. Remove the top cover from the crankcase and the side covers from the crosshead<br />

guides.<br />

2. Remove the middle spacer bar on a 2-throw frame and the middle bar of each<br />

set of three on a 4- or 6- throw frame.<br />

3. Move the throw to the outer dead center position and remove the locknut, bolt,<br />

end plates, and crosshead pin from the crosshead.<br />

4. Remove the crosshead as described in “Crosshead - Removal” on page 5-5.<br />

Before removing the crosshead, refer to the “CAUTION” on page 5-5.<br />
