8-198 INTERACTIVE <strong>FAMILY</strong> HISTORIESJAMES THOMAS <strong>BRYAN</strong> (2.3) is son of Samuel Bryan, Sr. (2) and Margaret(Morrow) Bryan. A 1947 letter from Cornelia (Moore) Redfield states that“Samuel Bryan and his brother, James Bryan came to Tennessee from NorthCarolina.” This is substantiated by “Humphreys County, Tennessee” whichstates that the “Bryans came to Tennessee from North Carolina.” It furtherstates that “James Bryan was born December 1, 1799 in North Carolina” andthat “James married Sarah Richards or Richardsons.” A 1950 letter from ClaudeStephenson states that his “mother has been told by her people that hergrandfather, James Bryan, had a brother by the name of Samuel Bryan.” Itfurther states “the following information comes from Mother’s <strong>Family</strong> Bible:James Bryan, departed this life, August 10, 1846, aged 46 years, 8 months and10 days. Sally Bryan, departed this life, July 10, 1861, aged 61 years, 7 monthsand 10 days.” This means that both James and Sally were born on the same day,December 1, 1799. According to a family group sheet by Martha (Mobley)McGill, James “Thomas” Bryan was born on December 1, 1799 in NorthCarolina. James and Sarah Bryan were the parents of at least nine children:. . . Virginia Bryan (2.3.8), b. 1839, Tennessee. . . Tennessee Bryan, b. 1840, TennesseeIn 1830, James “Bryant” and his family were living in Davidson County,Tennessee. Both James “Bryant” and Samuel “Bryant” were listed in District 17of the 1843 Maury County, Tennessee Tax Lists. James owned 190 acres valuedat $1,800. According to “Maury County Chancery Court Records,” JamesBryan, Sr. died on September 18, 1846. A 1947 letter from Cornelia (Moore)Redfield states that James “died on August 10, 1846 at Little Lot, Tennessee”and “was buried in the cemetery there.” In 1850, Sarah “Bryant” and herchildren were living in Maury County, Tennessee. A 1947 letter from Cornelia(Moore) Redfield states that “Sarah died July 10, 1861 at Little Lot, Tennessee”and “was buried in the cemetery there.”James R. Bryan married and had one son. James R. Bryan died prior to 1885.Samuel Bryan died prior to 1885 and left no children. On March 18, 1852,Nancy J. “Bryant” married Thomas Samuel “Bryant” in Maury County,Tennessee. On January 9, 1867, a Sarah “Bryant” married a Charles M. Hughes inMaury County, Tennessee. It is not known if this refers to Sarah Bryan,daughter of James and Sarah Bryan. On July 12, 1857, Tennessee Bryanmarried William B.
