8-256 INTERACTIVE <strong>FAMILY</strong> HISTORIESSamuel Bryan’s (3) marriage was documented in Davidson County, Tennessee in1824. On September 19, 1839, deeds were recorded of land being sold by bothSamuel Bryan (3) and James Bryan (2.3) to Martin Forehand in DavidsonCounty, Tennessee. On April 20, 1838, Samuel Bryan sold fifty acres of land toMartin Forehand for $650.00, obviously a very prime piece of property at thatprice. This land was situated in District Fourteen and was bounded by landowned by Zachariah Allen and Newton Edney. This the same fifty acres thatSamuel Bryan (2) purchased from John Burnham in 1808. The will of SamuelBryan (2) states that gave to his “son Samuel Bryan fifty acres of land that Ibought from John Burnham.” It is believed that Samuel Bryan left for MauryCounty, Tennessee shortly after he sold this land to Martin Forehand. Samueland Charlotte Bryan were the parents of at least seven children:. . . Robert Edmond Bryan, b. 1825, Davidson County, Tennessee. . . Sarah J. Bryan (3.2), b. November 21, 1826, Davidson County, Tennessee. . . Nancy Maria Bryan (3.3), b. January 7, 1827, Davidson County, Tennessee. . . Thomas Samuel Bryan (3.4), b. 1831, Davidson County, Tennessee. . . James R. Bryan, b. 1835, Davidson County, Tennessee. . . William DeMoss Bryan (3.6), b. March 22, 1838, Davidson County, Tennessee. . . Finus Ewing Bryan (4), b. June 1, 1840, Maury County, TennesseeIn 1830, there is a Samuel “Bryant” listed in census of Davidson County,Tennessee. However, the children of this Samuel Bryant are different from theknown children: two males (born 1825 to 1830) and one female (born 1820 to1825). In 1840, Samuel “Bryant” and his family were living in Maury County,Tennessee. In 1840, 1841 and 1843, Samuel “Bryant” was listed in the MauryCounty, Tennessee tax lists. In 1843, Samuel was shown owning 192 acres ofland valued at $1,500 and two slaves valued at $800. Samuel Bryan wrote hiswill on March 30, 1847 in Maury County, Tennessee and Charlotte (Charter)Bryan was living alone in the 1850 census of Maury County, Tennessee,therefore, Samuel Bryan died between 1847 and 1850 in Maury County,Tennessee. According to a 1947 letter from Cornelia (Moore) Redfield, SamuelBryan “was buried at the Alexander Cemetery which is southeast of his oldplantation near Williamsport.”
