Emmons was born on February 2, 1916in Gilmer, Texas. On October 18, 1937, Emmons Bryant married Oni ChristineChevalier in Kelsey, Texas. Oni was born on November 1, 1920 in Buckholts,Texas and is the daughter of William Chevalier and Sarah (Lindsey) Chevalier.Emmons and Oni Bryant are the parents of four children:. . . Phyllis Kay Bryant (3.6.2.7.1), b. September 14, 1939, Gilmer, Texas. . . Earley Juanita Bryant (3.6.2.7.2), b. August 31, 1942, Gilmer, Texas. . . Anthony Emmons Bryant (3.6.2.7.3), b. August 23, 1946, Gilmer, TexasEmmons Bryant graduated from the Kelsey school when he was seventeen andwas called on a two year mission by the Latter Day Saints Church. He servedeighteen months in Louisiana and then returned home because his father did nothave enough money to support him in the mission field any longer. Emmonsreturned home and returned to dairy work where he grew up. Emmons Bryantremained in the dairy business all of his life. His son, Anthony Bryant, is now afull partner in that business.At the age of twenty-three, he was called to serve as a counselor in the branchpresidency of the Kelsey Latter Day Saints Church where he spent seven years.Emmons then served as the branch president for nine years. He was then calledas the first bishop of the Kelsey Ward and after a little over a year was called toserve as a high counselor in the Dallas Stake which included all of East Texaseast of Fort Worth and all of Louisiana north of Alexandria. When the DallasStake was divided, he was called as high counselor in the Shreveport, LouisianaStake. Later, it was divided again and he served the Texas East Stake and wascalled for two years as Stake Mission President. Next he was called as firstcounselor in the Kelsey-Gilmer Ward Bishopric.
