One of the most convincing facts that link SamuelBryan (3) to Davidson County, Tennessee is the marriage record showing thatSamuel Bryan (3) married Charlotte “Charlton” in Davidson County, Tennessee.According to a 1956 letter from Martha (Mobley) McGill, Samuel Bryan “wasborn about 1800 in North Carolina.” The 1880 census of Hill County, Texasshows that Finus Bryan’s father, Samuel Bryan, was born in Ireland. The 1880census of Maury County, Tennessee shows that William DeMoss Bryan’s father,Samuel Bryan, was born in Tennessee. Several family historians believe thatSamuel Bryan married Charlotte Greer Charter. According to “Marriages ofDavidson County, Tennessee,” Samuel Bryan married Charlotte “Charlton” onSeptember 20, 1824 in Davidson County, Tennessee. Charlotte’s middle name iseither Greer or Greyer and Charlotte’s last name is either Charter or Charlton.For additional information on Charlotte’s name and her relatives, see the sketchof Charlotte Greer Charter (31). The 1850 census states that Charlotte was bornin 1800 in Virginia and the 1860 census states that Charlotte was born in 1802 inVirginia.
